Cleveland Clinic is entering the Medicare
Advantage market by partnering with Humana to offer two new health plans, an
effort that builds on an existing value-based agreement between the two
companies. The partnership will focus on preventive and coordinated care.
Members will have access to the full Cleveland
Clinic Health System, including more than 3,500 physicians and researchers, as
well as independent doctors who are part of the Cleveland Clinic Quality
Alliance.
The two organizations announced that
the plans will be offered during this year's MA enrollment period, held between
Oct. 15 and Dec. 7, and coverage will begin on Jan. 1.
The partnership will yield two insurance plans
in Cuyahoga County, Ohio: an MA health maintenance organization plan
for those already in enrolled in Medicare, and an MA dual-eligible special
needs plan for people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid.
The options are "specifically tailored
for northeast Ohio,” Larry Costello, president of Humana senior products
in Ohio, said in the announcement.
“By offering broad access to Cleveland
Clinic’s extensive resources, our goal is to enable a more seamless,
coordinated patient experience and help Ohioans in Cuyahoga County improve
their well-being and achieve their best health.”
Cleveland Clinic has also partnered with
health insurance startup Oscar Health to offer plans in Ohio's individual
markets. The co-branded products will be available both on and off the state's
exchanges.
The Cleveland Clinic-Oscar products will offer
a "seamless, guided healthcare experience" for consumers.
Ohio was in the spotlight while debate about
the Affordable Care Act raged in Congress, as
Anthem's decision to exit the
state's exchanges left 18 bare counties. As of the end of August, all of the
country's bare counties have been covered for
2018.
