About
11,000 patients could lose access to OhioHealth due to a contractual issue
between the Columbus-based health system and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue
Shield's Medicare Advantage plan, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
If
a resolution is not reached, OhioHealth patients with Anthem's Medicare
Advantage insurance will lose coverage for nonemergency services beginning Jan.
1. The impasse could end a seven-year relationship between the health system
and Anthem's Medicare plan.
In
a statement to The Columbus Dispatch, OhioHealth said: "We
recognize this is a disruption for our Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare
Advantage patients and we are sorry for that. ... Fortunately, there are
several Medicare Advantage plan options that, if chosen by patients, will
enable our patients to continue to obtain elective care with OhioHealth."In a statement to the publication, Anthem said it "recognizes that OhioHealth's decision to no longer provide in-network care to individuals enrolled in our Medicare Advantage health plans may create inconveniences and confusion. The company is committed to offering support services and ensuring consumers have uninterrupted access to care."
