Companies in Dallas and Miami are giving year-end bonuses at a higher rate than other major metros in the country.
Both cities lead the nation with 87 percent of companies reporting they will offer their employees a year-end bonus this year, according to a new survey from Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI). In Dallas, 58 percent of employees surveyed said they were expecting a year-end bonus.

Companies in Austin reported the highest rate of bonus increases from last year. More than 60 percent of companies in Austin said they were increasing bonus amounts from last year. In Dallas, 41 percent of companies that said they were offering a bonus said it would increase this year.
"Showing appreciation for your team can help build a healthy work environment that employees are looking for in today’s tight job market," said Joe Fisher, senior regional vice president for Robert Half in Dallas, in a prepared statement.
More than half of the companies offering bonuses in Dallas won't change the amount of year-end bonuses given last year, and only 3 percent said they were decreasing the amount. Detroit and San Francisco had the highest rate of bonuses decreasing with 8 percent respectively.
The majority of Dallas workers who said they were expecting a year-end bonus said they would use their bonus in a couple of different ways. Of those expecting a bonus, 57 percent said they would use their bonus on long-term savings, while 55 percent said they would put the money toward a vacation in the new year. The figures do not add up to 100 because respondents were allowed to choose more than one option.
Robert Half worked with independent research firms to survey more than 2,800 senior managers at companies with 20 or more employees. More than 2,800 office workers in major U.S. cities were surveyed as well. The surveys were conducted online.
