The Commonwealth of Kentucky last week awarded...
...five new five-year contracts for
its managed Medicaid program. This marks an end to a dispute dating back to
December, when state lawmakers tossed the original contracts awarded by former
governor Matt Bevin (R)’s administration after the review committee expressed
concern over not having been sent the contracts to review before they were
approved. Three of the selected insurers, Aetna, Humana and WellCare, are
incumbents, while UnitedHealthcare and Molina Healthcare are new entrants.
They’ll replace Passport Heath Plan, which currently serves 306,102 Kentucky
Medicaid beneficiaries, and Anthem, Inc., which serves 135,211. The new
contracts are slated to begin in January 2021. Kentucky's managed Medicaid
program currently enrolls 1,245,394 people.
