Centene delivers holistic healthcare that not
only addresses immediate medical needs, but focuses on the full circumstances
of our members' lives. Physical health and behavioral health are intricately
linked, and chronic illness and depression often go hand-in-hand. Feelings of
isolation, particularly during the current COVID-19 pandemic, can contribute to
a weakened physical state and further impact chronic illnesses. Centene
understands that improving health outcomes includes focusing on an individual’s
"whole health" and tailoring care and solutions to each
member's unique situation.
Vivian's physical health needs began impacting
her mental and emotional well-being after she moved into a nursing home. The
video below spotlights how a compassionate care manager with Centene's Buckeye
Health Plan in Ohio reassessed Vivian’s situation and helped rebuild her
confidence. Vivian is now thriving in her own home and credits her care manager
for recognizing what she needed and helping her every step of the way.
Note: This
video was recorded prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For many with chronic health concerns, changes
to their lifestyle or environment can contribute to feeling a loss of control,
depression, or anxiety. The Cleveland Clinic estimates
that one-third of individuals with a serious medical condition experience
apathy, fatigue, or thoughts of suicide. Vivian's story is an example of how
the proper care and services at the right time can provide hope and
significantly enhance an individual's quality of life.
It's especially important to check in with
friends and relatives with chronic illnesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. If
someone close to you is experiencing depressive symptoms as a result of chronic
illness or isolation, contact their healthcare provider right away.
