Connecting Children to Coverage and Care:
Medicaid and CHIP Comprehensive Dental Benefits Help
Children Achieve Better Health and Healthier Smiles

Thursday, February 18, 2021
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. ET

Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) cover essential dental services, like check-ups, x-rays, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and fillings. For February’s National Children’s Dental Health Month, the Connecting Kids to Coverage National Campaign webinar will showcase significant oral health data trends among children and will also promote the Campaign’s resources available to incorporate into Medicaid and CHIP outreach and enrollment efforts.

The use of dental services among children covered by Medicaid and CHIP declined due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Delaying routine care can lead to severe oral health issues, including tooth decay, which can negatively affect a child’s physical and social development and school performance. While tooth decay is one of the most common chronic diseases among children in the U.S., it is highly preventable.

On this webinar, Dr. Natalia I. Chalmers, D.D.S., M.H.Sc., Ph.D., a pediatric dentist and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, who serves as Dental Officer within the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, will share trends in oral health services among those enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP and how early intervention can promote oral health outcomes among children.

Join the webinar and learn about the latest resources your organization can use in your outreach and enrollment efforts. The Campaign’s many resources to promote oral health, found on InsureKidsNow.gov, include print, social media, and newsletter articles.
