US prepared to continue airstrikes against Taliban, top commander says

U.S. forces bombarded Taliban positions in at least four airstrikes last week, including in the southern province of Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban. Militants have besieged and now control some parts of the provincial capital, along with about half of the country's district centers, defense officials have said.
