CMS has contracted with Acumen, LLC to
develop episode-based cost measures for their potential use in the cost
performance category of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). As
part of measure development, Acumen convenes Clinician Expert Workgroups
(“workgroups”) to provide input on all components of cost measure
specifications.
Acumen is hosting 2 part-day virtual
webinars that are open to the public with a listen-only option.
Stakeholders and members of the public are invited to listen in on
the considerations that inform cost measure development. Please share this
message with anyone you believe may be interested.
The dates and times for the upcoming
webinars are listed below. To register, please click on the webinar(s)

The CKD/ESRD measures are a
re-specification for MIPS of the cost measures that were developed for the
Kidney Care First Option of the Kidney Care Choices (KCC) Alternative Payment
Model in 2020. More information on the KCC model is available here, and a report summarizing expert
input from the Technical Expert Panel that Acumen convened is available here.
The Psychoses/Related Conditions measure
was one of 11 episode-based cost measures developed between April and
December 2018. During the 2018-2019 pre-rulemaking process, the Measure
Applications Partnership (MAP) conditionally supported 10 measures, but re-voted
on the Psychoses/Related Conditions measure with ‘do not support’ for
rulemaking. Since then, Acumen has continued to gather feedback about
refining the measure through multiple channels.
Information about the measure development
process and development activities (including this process summary document) undertaken in previous years is
on the MACRA Feedback Page.
