Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker both
announced additional measures this week to stem the spread of COVID-19 as
cases continue to surge in the state.
On Monday, Wu announced new vaccination
requirements for indoor dining, fitness, and entertainment
venues in the city. She also strengthened vaccine requirements for city
employees and will no longer allow the workforce of 18,000 to be
regularly tested instead of vaccinated. Here's everything
you need to know about the new mandate.
While Wu said Tuesday that the requirement has been "overwhelmingly"
been met with
support, the reactions
from Boston businesses ranged from from relief to
frustration, my colleagues reported.
On Tuesday, Baker issued a statewide
mask advisory that urges people, regardless of their
vaccination status, to wear masks in indoor, public areas. He also said
he would activate the National Guard to help hospitals and direct
hospitals to delay elective procedures that result in admissions.
But Massachusetts Representative Ayanna Pressley said Baker must
do more to mitigate the spread of the virus in the state.
In a letter to Baker, Pressley asked him to strengthen the mask advisory
to a mandate, in addition to other measures.
