Military building more capacity in US for evacuees as clock ticks on deadline to leave staging bases in Europe

There is now space for 36,000 Afghan evacuees on eight military installations in the United States and the Defense Department is working to boost that number to 50,000, said Air Force Gen. Glen VanHerck, the commander of U.S. Northern Command.

Louisiana National Guard soldier dies at state agency parking lot

Fort Jackson drill instructor convicted in assault of Black man will move to new duty station, Army says

Evacuee processing speeds up at European bases, as 16,000 move on to US, general says

Since evacuation operations began at the European bases — Ramstein Air Base and Rhine Ordinance Barracks in Germany, Naval Station Rota in Spain and Naval Air Station Sigonella in Italy — the military has moved from processing about 60 evacuees per hour to more than 250 per hour.

Nearly 2,700 Afghan evacuees leave naval bases in Spain and Italy

About 1,900 evacuees have left Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily and another 750 have departed Naval Station Rota in Spain, said Capt. Tamara Lawrence, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa spokeswoman.
