The surge of COVID-19 cases is causing...

 ...widespread staffing issues across the Commonwealth. 


Nursing homes overwhelmed by infections among employees are being forced to freeze admissions due to a state rule many say is outdated. In the past month, more than 60 percent reported closing admissions intermittently. 

Rising case numbers have also led to a shortage of healthy drivers at transit agencies and pushed several restaurants to temporarily close their doors.

Schools, too, are “suffocating” from a lack of available staff. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu noted that more than 40 percent of staff were absent in some schools because of COVID. Teachers were in such high demand Wednesday that even Boston Public Schools Superintendent Brenda Cassellius helped fill in.
