Webinar:
Supporting
Smiles: Promoting Childhood Dental Benefits
Covered Under Medicaid
and CHIP
Tuesday, February 15,
2022
2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET
The COVID-19 public health emergency caused
many parents and caregivers to delay important routine care for their
children, like regular dental check-ups. When comparing the public health
emergency period from March 2020 – May 2021 to data from March 2018 – May
2019, CMS found that children insured by Medicaid and CHIP participated in
fewer routine care visits, including 12.6 million (24%) fewer dental
services.[1] Access to regular dental care can
help prevent chronic diseases like tooth decay and reduce the risk of other
oral health issues that may negatively affect physical and social
development. It is important that children have access to these services and
that parents and caregivers understand how to get them. By enrolling eligible
children in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), kids
and teens up to age 19 can access routine dental services including
check-ups, x-rays, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, fillings, and more.
This webinar, which is being held during National Children’s Dental Health
Month, will feature new data on oral health trends among children, best
practices to get families enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP to access dental
health care, and new Campaign resources available on InsureKidsNow.gov for
organizations to use in their outreach and encourage the use of benefits.
