When I was first told that I needed a new
heart, all I could think about was my kids and my family. I had no idea what
the future would bring for them. I was able to receive a left ventricular
assist device, otherwise known as an LVAD implant – it helps a heart like
mine that can't work on its own, while I wait for my heart transplant. I'm
alive because of medical breakthroughs made possible by donors just like you.
I can lift up my kids. I can run with them. I can take them to the park. It's
just amazing. These little moments are what matters. I reclaimed my rhythm by
living every day, living in the moment and not worrying about what tomorrow
is going to bring.
This is the future you're making possible by being a part of the Heart
community – an impact that is so big it's hard to put into words.
I survived against all odds, and John, there are so many women like me. Read our stories and then head over to the Impact Map to see what
the American Heart Association is doing in your community.
Thank you,
