Bonton Farms has been on the forefront of creating
opportunities of all stripes for the residents of the long-neglected Bonton
community, and now it's adding multifamily affordable housing to the mix.
As most readers are aware, what started as a few garden plots has
morphed into a full working farm, cafe, and farmer's market, with a
9,000-square-foot health and wellness center coming soon.
Last week, Bonton Farms got a little closer to another
goal-providing affordable workforce multifamily housing in the neighborhood. It
already had the funding in place, but needed a zoning change, which the City
Planning Commission signed off on. (It will now go before the City Council.)
When it's completed, there will be 12 studio apartments, 14
one-bedroom apartments, and 10 two-bedroom apartments, all within a mile or
less of parks, a community center, Bonton Farms, and a DART stop.
