A 'listening campaign' for long COVID

The federal government is launching a listening campaign to hear how long COVID affects people in the workplace. There's now a website where Americans can share ideas to “better support” workers who have symptoms, their co-workers, and their employers.

And it could be sorely needed. One in 5 adults with COVID develops the post-infection condition that can result in shortness of breath, fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and more.

But companies and the government do not yet have a firm hold on how to handle the diagnosis. Mia Ives-Rublee, director of the Disability Justice Initiative at the Center for American Progress, said many people with long COVID have been on disability leave, and it’s not clear if they’ll be 100 percent when they return to work.

That’s why, she said, “it’s always good to get opinions.”
