National Training Program


The Medicare General Enrollment Period (GEP)

GEPThe Medicare General Enrollment Period is from January 1–March 31 each year. You can sign up if you didn’t sign up for Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) (if you have to buy it) and/or Part B (Medical Insurance) (for which you must pay premiums) during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), and you don’t qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Starting January 1, 2023, your coverage will start the the first day of the month after you sign up. You might pay a monthly late enrollment penalty, if you don’t qualify and sign up during your SEP.

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) is from January 1–March 31. If you already have a Medicare Advantage Plan, it gives you a chance to switch back to Original Medicare or change to a different Medicare Advantage Plan depending on which coverage works better for you.
