A new study
commissioned by the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council found that the
healthcare sector makes a $38.4 billion economic impact on the region, Will
Maddox reports.
The study
looked at statistics from the 90 council hospital members and found that those
institutions provided about $26 billion in labor income, almost $6 billion in
retail sales, and $6.4 billion in taxes. They also accounted for 372,988 jobs
in 2022, an increase from 295,138 in 2017.
A 2020 U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics report predicted that the healthcare sector would
add 2.6 million jobs over the next 10 years, thanks in part to an aging Baby
Boomer population that will continue to age and need more care.
