If surgeons
had intervened quickly, the epidural hemorrhage that Judy “Jessie” Adams
suffered when she had a routine steroid shot in her spine might not have left
her as a paraplegic, a jury decided. That jury awarded her $10.1 million when
it found Texas Health Flower Mound negligent.
Adams'
lawyers argued that the staff at the hospital failed to diagnose and treat that
injury within the six hours needed to stave off severe impairment. A
neurosurgeon that testified as an expert said that she likely would have had at
least 50 percent motor strength if her care had not been delayed an extra hour
and a half.
