World AIDS Day
With support from the
U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), CDC works
with ministries of health; private, civil society, and faith-based
organizations; and other on-the-ground partners to improve methods for
finding, treating, and preventing HIV infections.

|
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency
virus. It weakens a person’s immune system by destroying important
cells that fight disease and infection. There is currently no effective
cure for HIV. But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled.
