Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services February 2023 Data Products Recap

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is highlighting several data products the agency released during the month of February: Medicare COVID-19 Vaccine PUF - Quarterly Update The Medicare COVID-19 Vaccine PUF is a public use file (PUF) that presents Medicare utilization and spending information for administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. This update to the PUF includes an additional three months of data and refreshes the previously released figures with more complete data, for dates of service between December 11, 2020 and December 31, 2022.  The PUF is based on Medicare fee-for-service claims CMS received by February 10, 2023. Geographic Variation in the Medicare Fee-for-Service Program PUFs - Annual Update The Geographic Variation Public Use Files contain demographic, spending, utilization, and quality indicators for the Medicare fee-for-service population.  There are two files available on data.cms.gov.  One of the files presents data at the state- and county-level and is accompanied by an interactive dashboard. The other file presents data at the hospital referral region (HRR) level.  The annual update now includes data for calendar year 2021. CMS Program Statistics – Annual Update The CMS Program Statistics presents detailed summary statistics on the characteristics of Medicare populations, utilization, and payments, as well as counts for Medicare-certified institutional and non-institutional providers. The annual update now includes reports with data for calendar year 2021. Medicare Enrollment – Monthly Update The Medicare Monthly Enrollment file presents Medicare enrollment by geographic area and now includes enrollee counts for November 2022.
