Crow laws back home. His unit, the 92nd Infantry Division of the
Buffalo Soldiers, was sent to Italy, where, Caldwood said, he was
not treated as a lesser, not even by the Nazis.

Retired Marine 1st Sgt. Robert Gray was
reading a book about Black Medal of Honor recipients, when he came
across Pfc. Willy James, Jr., Kansas City’s only Black MOH
recipient. Gray had never heard of him. So, for over a decade he
has worked to ensure James’ contributions would be remembered.

of Ecorse was serving as bombardier on a B-24 Liberator. The crew's
mission was to hit oil fields and refineries near Bucharest in
summer 1943 as part of Operation Tidal Wave.
