Centene Plans to Expand Its Medicare Advantage Market

Centene Corp. and Ascension, the nation's largest Catholic and non-profit health system, recently signed a letter of intent to establish a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan, which will serve multiple geographic markets beginning in 2020. Centene is better known for its Medicaid businesses, with more than half of its covered lives under its Medicaid HMO plans and only 2% under its Medicare Advantage plans. Currently, a total of 237,883 Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in Centene's MA plan across 16 states.
