Updated at 5:55 p.m.: Revised to
include Collin, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman and Rockwall counties and statewide
numbers.
Dallas County added
24 victims to its coronavirus death toll Tuesday, as well as 217 more cases of
COVID-19.
None of the newly
announced cases was part of a backlog caused by coding issues in the state’s reporting
system, county officials said.
The latest victims
included 16 Dallas residents: a man in his 30s, a woman in her 40s, two men in
their 50s, three men and two women in their 60s, three men and two women in
their 70s, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s. One of the men and one of
the women in their 70s and the woman in her 90s lived at long-term care
facilities, which have been linked to more than a quarter of the county’s
coronavirus deaths.
The other victims
were a Balch Springs man in his 60s, two DeSoto women in their 70s, a Duncanville
woman in her 70s, a Garland man in his 60s, a Lancaster woman in her 80s who
lived at a long-term care facility and two Mesquite men, in their 30s and 80s.
Dallas County has had
69,303 confirmed coronavirus cases and 881 deaths. The county does not report a number of recoveries. Separately,
the county has reported 2,740 probable cases of COVID-19 and eight probable deaths.
Across Texas, 6,091
new coronavirus cases and 181 deaths were reported Monday, with both numbers
continuing downward trends. The state has logged 586,730 total cases and 11,576
deaths from COVID-19.
There are 4,907
patients hospitalized statewide with the virus, including 925 in North Texas.
The seven-day average of positive tests is 15.4%, above the 10% threshold Gov.
Greg Abbott has said is cause for alarm.
Local health
officials have been using hospitalizations, emergency-room visits
As of Monday, 400
patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Dallas County, and 381 ER visits —
20% of the day’s total — were for symptoms of the illness. While these numbers
are well below record highs, the county said the virus is still straining the
health care system.
“We are seeing a
continuing good trend in lowering numbers of infections and hospitalizations,”
County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement. “We must not lose our
resolve to do the things that have caused that turn in the right direction.”
Tarrant County
Tarrant County
reported 411 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, along with four deaths.
The latest victims
were a Benbrook man in his 60s, a White Settlement man in his 70s, an Arlington
man in his 80s and a Fort Worth man in his 80s. All had underlying health conditions,
the county reported.
Tarrant County has
recorded 519 COVID-19 deaths and 40,331 cases — 38,283 of them confirmed and
2,048 probable. The county also has had 32,670 recoveries.
According to the
county’s data, 319 patients remain hospitalized.
Collin County
Collin County
officials added 23 positive coronavirus tests to the county’s total Tuesday,
the first time the county has recorded new cases since Thursday.
One additional death
from the virus was reported, bringing the county’s total to 105. No details
about that person were released.
Collin County has
reported 10,474 total cases of coronavirus and 5,709 recoveries. Ninety-seven
patients remain hospitalized.
The county has
previously said that it has “no confidence” in the data it receives from the
state and that its online coronavirus dashboard would match the number of
cases, deaths and recoveries shown on the Department of State Health Services’
website. On Monday, County Judge Chris Hill said the DSHS would be looking into
the county’s issues with the reporting system.
Denton County
County officials
announced five more coronavirus deaths Tuesday.
The victims were a
Lewisville man in his 50s, a Denton man in his 60s, a Krugerville man in his
60s, a Little Elm man in his 60s and a Corinth man older than 80.
The county also
reported 171 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing its confirmed total to
9,406.
The county has posted
98 deaths from the virus and 7,199 recoveries. Forty-three patients remain
hospitalized.
