MADISON, Wis.—Nov. 16, 2020—People with Original Medicare may be able to purchase a WPS
Medicare supplement insurance plan at any time of year as long as they can pass
some simple health questions. However, seniors who have signed up for a
Medicare Advantage plan can usually only change plans once each year during
Medicare’s Fall Open Enrollment.
Medicare’s Fall Open Enrollment runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7
every year. During Fall Open Enrollment, those eligible for Medicare can make a
variety of coverage changes, according to the medicare.gov website:
·
Change from Original
Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan.
·
Change from a Medicare
Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare.
·
Switch from one
Medicare Advantage Plan to another Medicare Advantage Plan.
·
Switch from a Medicare
Advantage Plan that doesn't offer drug coverage to a Medicare Advantage Plan
that offers drug coverage.
·
Switch from a Medicare
Advantage Plan that offers drug coverage to a Medicare Advantage Plan that
doesn't offer drug coverage.
·
Join a Medicare drug
plan.
·
Switch from one
Medicare drug plan to another Medicare drug plan.
·
Drop your Medicare
prescription drug coverage completely.
For seniors changing from a Medicare Advantage plan back to
Original Medicare, a Medicare supplement insurance plan can help cover medical
costs that Original Medicare leaves behind. If you can say “No” to a few simple
health questions, it’s easy to make the switch. Customers choosing a WPS
Medicare supplement insurance plan also get extra services and programs
included at no extra cost:
·
New for 2021, WPS
customers get access to Iris® Identity Theft Resolution
Services and ScamAssist™ Fraud Review Service to help protect customers against
criminal activities.1
·
WPS customers also get
access to the Silver&Fit® Healthy Aging and Exercise
program, a wellness program, and vision and hearing discount programs.2
During Fall Open Enrollment, seniors can also enroll in a
Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan, or PDP. WPS MedicareRx
Plan (PDP) is available to seniors who do not already have
prescription drug coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan. According to the
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, based on current enrollment,
about 98% of beneficiaries enrolled in stand-alone prescription drug plans for
2021 will be in plans with 3.5 stars or higher, an increase from about 70% in
2020. The average Star Rating for a stand-alone prescription drug plan rose to
3.58 in 2021 from 3.50 in 2020.3 The WPS plan earned a 4-star
rating for the 2021 plan year.4
