Use Antibiotics Responsibly in Pets

Healthy Pets, Healthy People

Nov. 18-24 is US Antibiotic Awareness Week

Did you know that antibiotic resistance affects pets too?

Antibiotic resistance affects people and pets

Antibiotics save lives, but anytime they are used, they can contribute to antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance can affect the health of both people and animals. Everyone can help improve antibiotic prescribing and use. Appropriate antibiotic use in people and pets helps protect the whole family––including furry, feathered, and scaly family members––from antibiotic-resistant infections.

Use antibiotics responsibly in pets

You can help prevent antibiotic resistance by asking your veterinarian about preventing common infections in pets with good hygiene, nutrition, vaccinations, and proper pet care. Use antibiotics only when needed and follow your veterinarian’s instructions.
