Mich. faces home health worker shortage crisis
Michigan's shortage of home health care workers has become a
crisis because workers are reluctant to risk getting COVID-19 for lower-paying
jobs, according to advocates for older adults and people with disabilities.
Rebekah LaFontaine, who owns a home care agency, said they are in
"desperate need" of caregivers for older adults, and Christine
Vanlandingham, CEO of the Region IV Area Agency on Aging, said the organization
pays home care workers with clients who have COVID-19 double to encourage them
to stay on the job.
