Study: UK COVID-19 variant spreading fast in the US
A study conducted by Scripps Research Institute researchers found
that the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, first discovered in the UK, is doubling
every 10 days in the US, with a projected transmission rate increase of 35% to
45%, based on findings released Sunday through preprint server medRxiv.
"Our study shows that the U.S. is on a similar trajectory as other
countries where B.1.1.7 rapidly became the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant,
requiring immediate and decisive action to minimize COVID-19 morbidity and
mortality," researchers wrote in their study, which still needs to be
peer-reviewed.
