How the American Rescue Plan Act Affects Subsidies for Marketplace Shoppers and People Who Are Uninsured

The number of Americans eligible for subsidized ACA Marketplace health insurance has risen by 20 percent, from 18.1 million to 21.8 million, due to provisions in the American Rescue Plan Act that temporarily extend eligibility for federal subsidies and boost the amount of financial help available, a new KFF analysis finds. The increase means that 3.7 million people are newly eligible for subsidized Marketplace coverage, most of whom have incomes between 400 and 600 percent of the poverty level (up to $76,560 for an individual or $157,200 for a family of four).

KFF experts discussed the law's health care and affordability provisions in a web briefing held earlier this week. (Issue Brief)
