Levine confirmed as HHS assistant health secretary
Dr. Rachel Levine was confirmed Wednesday as the new assistant
secretary for health at HHS, making her the first openly transgender person to
be confirmed by the Senate for a federal position. Levine, who previously
served as Pennsylvania's health secretary, was described by Sen. Patty Murray,
D-Wash., before the vote as a "trusted voice" on issues such as
health equity, opioid prescribing and LGBTQ health care.
