SOCIAL SECURITY TRUST FUNDS COULD RUN SHORT BY 2034

The trustees who oversee the trust funds that help pay Social Security retirement and disability benefits project that the reserves could be depleted in 13 years. After 2034, pending any action by lawmakers, beneficiaries would still receive 78 percent of benefits funded by incoming payroll taxes.
