The latest on booster shots

The latest on booster shots

A federal advisory panel voted on Friday to recommend a third dose of Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine six months after the second dose for people 65 and older or at high risk for severe illness from COVID-19. The panel, however, rejected the company's request to make booster doses available to anyone 16 and older. The Food and Drug Administration is expected to make a decision on the booster doses in the coming days.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, said over the weekend that he expects more data to be released soon supporting a plan for a booster shot rollout.

Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson said today that people in a clinical trial who received a booster COVID-19 vaccine dose two months after getting the first shot saw a significant boost in protection against the coronavirus. The company said the results have been shared with the US Food and Drug Administration.
