Today,
the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released five new
Medicaid data tools that are intended to support the Medicaid Innovation
Accelerator Program (IAP) and can be used by states or other researchers to
identify specific subgroups of beneficiaries using Medicaid administrative
data.
The
tools allow a user to identify: (1) pregnant and postpartum beneficiaries,
(2) beneficiaries with severe maternal morbidity, (3) beneficiaries with
neonatal abstinence syndrome, (4) beneficiaries who could benefit from
integrated care, and (5) beneficiaries with a substance use disorder (SUD).
Each tool includes technical specifications for identifying the relevant
population and reference codes (diagnosis codes, procedure codes, and
national drug codes found on claims). The first four tools will also
include tables produced from applying the algorithms to the data from
the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System Analytic
Files for 2017, 2018, and 2019.
