In viruses-that-won't-read-the-room news, Dallas County
health officials reported Tuesday afternoon that they were investigating a
monkeypox case. The patient, according to a news release from Dallas
County Health and Human Services, had traveled internationally in the last
month to a country that also has reported monkeypox cases. The individual was
on a flight from Mexico to Dallas. Preliminary tests were positive Monday,
and the county said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lab
in Atlanta will include it in their official case counts. But this isn't the county's first rodeo with the virus.
Last July the county reported its first case, and was able to isolate the
patient and follow the individual's contacts until they were satisfied there
was no outbreak. |
