Understanding Ableism and
Negative Reactions to Disability
|
|
|
Sixty-one million US adults live with a
disability and arthritis is a major driver of that. Ableism is
prejudice and discrimination aimed at people with disabilities, usually
based on the belief that people who have no disabilities are superior.
Ableism can take many forms, including assuming that disabled people
want or need to be “fixed” and choosing an inaccessible venue for a
meeting or event. Learn more from the American Psychological
Association (source).
