the University of Pittsburgh
Medical Center (UPMC) and Highmark Health's five-year-old consent agreement,
which allowed some Highmark members to receive in-network care at UPMC's
competing hospitals. Highmark's 252,778 Medicare Advantage members will lose
in-network access to UPMC facilities June 30, unless the state Supreme Court
reverses the decision. The dispute stems from Highmark's decision to establish
a competing health system, Alleghany Health Network, in 2013.
