States tighten restrictions as COVID-19 cases spike
The US logged more than 166,000 new COVID-19 cases Monday, marking
the second consecutive week the nation has reported over 100,000 daily cases,
while the number of Americans hospitalized with COVID-19 reached more than
73,000. Several states and cities are introducing new measures starting this
week to slow the spread of COVID-19, including California, which will tighten
commercial and social restrictions in 40 of its 58 counties, and Philadelphia,
which prohibited "indoor gatherings of any size in any location, public or
private," except among people who live together.
