A COVID-19 outbreak in the Barrie hospital's transitional care
inpatient unit has been declared over.
"Be assured we will continue to implement our outbreak
management protocol, including enhanced cleaning, monitoring, education
and frequent communication with our patients," Royal Victoria
Regional Health Centre (RVH) officials tweeted Tuesday night.
The unit is once again open to transfers and new admissions,
says a news release issued Wednesday morning. Due to the ongoing community
spread and the presence of the variant, RVH continues to restrict visitors
across all units in the hospital.
The outbreak had been declared on Jan. 9 and officially ended on
Sunday, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
Outbreaks remain in effect in RVH's specialized seniors care
unit, which was also declared Jan. 9, as well as the cancer palliative unit,
declared Feb. 5.
"All patients on those units have been swab tested, are
safely isolating in their rooms and are being monitored closely for
symptoms," says the release. "All patients on the unit are on
droplet/contact precautions and will be re-tested within the next week, or
earlier if they develop symptoms. Patients who have been previously discharged
from the unit will be contacted by public health and advised to self-isolate in
their homes."
By the numbers (as of Feb. 16):
Cancer and Palliative Unit — 2 patients, 1
staff, 1 death
Specialized Seniors Care — 4 patients, 0 staff,
4 outbreak-related patient deaths.
Elsewhere in Barrie, an outbreak at the Mill Creek Care Centre
long-term care home's 3 East and West units ended on Monday. It had been
in effect since Jan. 31.
A facility-wide outbreak at Amica Little Lake retirement
home was declared over on Tuesday, as was an outbreak at an unnamed child-care
centre which had been put in place Jan. 27.
Other ongoing outbreaks in Barrie and the dates they were
declared include:
* Grove Park Home (long-term care),
facility-wide, Jan. 4
* Roberta Place (long-term care), facility-wide, Jan.
8
* Barrie Manor Retirement
Residence, Bayshore Transitional Care Unit, Feb. 10.
