The Texas freeze hit global chip supplies
Why it matters: While Texas has been in the news this week for the way the state
has failed to keep power supplies flowing during a frigid storm, the chill from
that failure is expected to be felt around the world as many of the plants that
produce semiconductors for products ranging from computers to cars have been
knocked offline by the power outages. This is particularly problematic because
chip manufacturing had already been reeling from the pandemic.
