From the desk of Dr. Gupta |
|
I've
been fully vaccinated for more than five months, and now my entire family can
experience the physical and mental freedom that come with those two doses. As part
of the more than 45% of the US population who are now fully vaccinated
against Covid-19, we have allowed ourselves to push the worries of getting
infected further back into our minds, and have taken steps toward our
pre-pandemic lives. I have
enjoyed meals with friends, have seen people’s faces for the first time in a
year, and even gotten to enjoy one of my favorite pastimes once
again. I can’t
tell you how surreal it was to go to one of the NBA playoff games last week.
Crowds cheering, high fives amongst strangers — scenes that even a few months
ago would have given me chills. I think
Dr. Peter Hotez described it best, saying that America is now home of “two
Covid nations.” In places with higher vaccination rates, the virus for the
most part is being kept at bay. In places where are low vaccination rates,
the virus will still have a willing home, threatening progress we have made. I know
the message might be getting old, but getting vaccinated is your ticket — our ticket as a country —
to live in the version of America that can ease its worries about this deadly
virus. Have
you had a moment where you felt “normal” again? Please share it with us at resultsarein@turner.com. I’d love to hear
from you. |
