Texas dental school's mobile program serves older
adults
The School of Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio is providing oral health care services to older adults in
the area who can't afford care through its Holistic Oral health Program for
Elders. The HOPE program provides free mobile dental services to residents of
nursing homes, according to the university, and is funded through the Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Sarah Dirks, D.D.S., a dentist consultant
for the program, said she hopes their work will inspire other dentists to
consider geriatric dentistry.
