A group of advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention decided this
afternoon that certain recipients of Moderna and Johnson &
Johnson coronavirus vaccines should be eligible to receive boosters,
potentially allowing millions of more Americans to get an extra dose.
Next step: Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, will decide whether
to follow the panel's recommendation.
The vote comes one day after the Food and
Drug Administration issued its own stamp of approval on
administering Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters and also said it is OK
for people to mix-and-match doses, getting a booster from a different company
than their original dose.
