Once vaccines for children ages 5 to 11 are formally approved by...

...federal regulators, kids will be able to get vaccinated at pediatricians' offices, pharmacies, and possibly even schools, the White House announced Wednesday while unveiling detailed plans for the next phase of vaccine disbursement.

Vaccines for kids could become available as soon as the first week of November, and Massachusetts expects its first order of pediatric doses to be available by Nov. 5.

However, my colleague Kay Lazar reported, some parents will need to be persuaded to vaccinate their young children. Experts hope that families will see the value in vaccinating children, even though they're at the least risk of developing severe cases of COVID-19.

"This [pandemic] is a marathon and this is mile 20 and getting vaccinations for 5- to 11-year-olds will help us get closer to that finish line," Dr. Michael Koster, director of the division of pediatric infectious diseases at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island, told Lazar.
