The White House unveiled a new and long-awaited coronavirus response strategy Wednesday for a country approaching its "new normal."
The plan focuses on accelerating research into vaccines that could be deployed quickly after the arrival of a new variant and using a “test to treat” method where Americans could get tested at a pharmacy and, if they are positive, “receive antiviral pills on the spot at no cost.”
But there's a hitch: Much of the plan requires funding from Congress. The administration said it could need up to $30 billion for the pandemic response. That's on top of the $5.8 trillion lawmakers have already committed to COVID over multiple years.
