US COVID-19 cases top 27M as new variants spread

The number of reported COVID-19 cases in the US surpassed 27 million on Sunday, though new cases continue to decline, while total deaths topped 450,000 and average more than 3,000 per day. Experts warn Americans not to let their guard down after CDC data showed nearly 700 cases of new COVID-19 variants -- the majority of which were the more-transmissible B.1.1.7 variant first identified in the UK -- were detected across the country.
