AHIP: Electronic prior authorization accelerates care
Implementation of electronic prior authorization reduces the
median time between submission and decision by about 69%, compared with the
manual process, according to a study from AHIP and RTI International. The
findings, based on an analysis of 40,000 manual and electric requests for prior
authorization, showed use of the electronic process was associated with faster
time to patient care, reduced burdens on health care providers and improved
understanding of prior authorization information.
