HHS OIG report finds hospitals in crisis

The COVID-19 pandemic has created new problems and worsened
existing issues at US hospitals, leaving staff frustrated, traumatized and
exhausted, according to a new report from the HHS Office of Inspector General.
A lack of federal assistance meant hospitals had to set up their own systems
for handling COVID-19 vaccines, staff illnesses and deaths worsened existing
workforce problems, disconnected data systems forced staff to input the same
data repeatedly, and hospitals fear they will be unable to address a looming
mental health crisis.
