All of Dallas' Federal Rent Rent Relief Funding Has Been Spent

Two-and-a-half years after the pandemic started, the money available for emergency rental assistance in Dallas is gone, at least for now. 

 

The program allowed renters who were short on money to apply for up to 18 months of relief, provided that they met certain guidelines. An online application portal was set up by the city in early 2021, and more than 17,000 applications were submitted. (A little under 10,000 of all of those received help, just about 60 percent of the demand.)

 

The city received $40 million in one round, and $52 million in the second.

 

The pandemic revealed both short-term and long-term solutions when it comes to the need for emergency rent assistance. But now, the city won't have federal help to achieve it.
