Encourage the Men in Your Life to Make Their Health a Priority

Encourage the Men in Your Life to Make Their Health a Priority

In June, the CMS Office of Minority Health (OMH) recognizes Men’s Health Month by helping men take steps for better health through its prevention resources and research. Listed below are some of the ways individuals, organizations, and communities can join CMS OMH in its efforts to improve health care for men.
Review the data:
·         Learn about the quality of health care received by Medicare beneficiaries by reading CMS OMH’s 2017 Gender Disparities in Health Care in Medicare Advantage report, which presents data separately for men and women due to evidence that quality of care may be different for these groups.
·         Better understand the prevalence of prostate cancer among Medicare beneficiaries ages 65 years and older, especially among African American men.
Get screened and encourage others to do the same:
·         Medicare Part B covers prostate and colorectal cancer screenings for men beginning at age 50 or sooner with certain risk factors. For more information on all of the preventive screenings covered by Medicare, visit Your Medicare Coverage webpage.
Access resources for your community:
·         Download and share the From Coverage to Care “Put Your Health First” flyer that encourages men to take advantage of preventive services.
·         If you are a health care professional, visit the Connected Care resource hub to learn more about providing chronic care management services to Medicare beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions and educating patients about its benefits.
