Minnesota National Guard commander details mission to evacuate Afghan refugees

The military machine cranked into motion. The 425 Minnesota soldiers leaving Kuwait for Afghanistan were to provide security to ensure the safe evacuation of tens of thousands. They packed — gear, ammunition, food — then went to the nearby U.S. air base and waited for planes to ferry them into the chaos. They slept on a gravel parking lot.

Gang with past abductions blamed for kidnapping 17 missionaries in Haiti

A notorious Haitian gang known for brazen kidnappings and killings was accused by police Sunday of abducting 17 missionaries from a U.S.-based organization. Five children were believed to be among those kidnapped.

Coast Guard designates cargo vessel as ‘party of interest’ in Southern California oil spill

Braden Rostad, chief of investigations, Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach, determined that the "Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) DANIT was involved in a January 25, 2021, anchor-dragging incident during a heavy weather event that impacted the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.

Former Coast Guard Academy cadet sues over disenrollment, claiming mishandling of sexual assault

According to a complaint filed Oct. 1 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, academy Superintendent Rear Adm. William Kelly informed first-class Cadet Joshua Roh on May 11 that Roh was being disenrolled for "a pattern of misconduct" and "continued concern regarding (Cadet Roh's) deficiencies in emotional regulation and professional interactions."
