Webinar TODAY at 2 pm ET: Accelerating Vaccination of Older Adults

Tuesday, June 1 at 2 pm ET

Register for the webinar.

In this virtual roundtable to close Older Americans Month, leaders from the aging services network will talk about the difference vaccination is making in the lives of the older adults they serve. Join to hear about some of the creative approaches they have developed for helping older adults get vaccinated, particularly their efforts to connect with people of color and others who may not have not been as effectively reached through mainstream vaccination efforts.

During Older Americans Month, we celebrate the vital contributions of older adults, who have built resilience and strength over their lives through successes, failures, joys, and difficulties. This year’s theme is “Communities of Strength,” which recognizes that our communities are strongest when older adults are able to fully participate in them, sharing their knowledge, experience, and talents. It also honors the strength older adults have demonstrated throughout the pandemic, as they have persevered through the disproportionate challenges they have faced. Finally, it reflects our appreciation for the important role older adults have played in helping our nation weather this public health crisis. Because it is the key to recovery from the pandemic and to making it possible for older adults to safely resume their traditional roles in families and communities, vaccination is fundamental to building and supporting “Communities of Strength.”

Study Claims COVID Immunity May Last Years

Many have wondered why the authorities act as if this isn’t the case. From the story: The first study, published Monday in the journal Nature, found most people who were infected with the virus about a year earlier had immunological memory of the disease in their bone marrow, suggesting they’re still able to produce antibodies. And another report, which was published on the pre-print server BioRxic, found that these cells — called “memory B” — were robust for at least 12 months after infection.

Courts Stop Biden Administration from Using Race to Determine Federal Benefits

From the story: At issue is the SBA requirement that only applications for restaurant relief from women and racial minorities will be processed in the first 21 days, sending everyone else to the back of the line. As the courts recognized, the danger is that the SBA will run out of funds before these other applications can be considered.
